The Feeling of Anger

Anger: N.1. A feeling of great annoyance or antagonism as the result of some real or supposed grievance; rage; wrath.

Scripture : Matthew 21:12-13- And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and brought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves. And said unto them. It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.
Growing up in a household of two brothers and three sisters there was ALWAYS something going on.; someone was always annoying the other, or simply looking at another in a strange way to pester them. I can very clearly remember a time back when my sister was engaged. As my older sister she was my best friend, despite the age gap of nine years. Amanda, my sister, was MINE! People are something I didn’t used to share well, especially with one that would take her a thousand miles away. As days built up towards her wedding, I grew furious knowing some “pretty boy” (as I so nicely called her hubby to be) was going to “steal “her. In hindsight I can laugh about that; but anger set deep in my heart. At age twelve, a girl at age twelve at that, I said some super hurtful things to the both of them that I do so wish never came out of my mouth. Making Amanda cry and Josh upset almost every time I saw them; when it was out of anger and jealousy. There was so much in my life I could have been focusing on, but I lost all that precious time because of anger.
Anger like every other emotion is given by God with a purpose. When Jesus flipped the tables of the moneychangers, it was out of anger. As Christians we're supposed to be like Christ, correct? Are we then allowed to be angry? The short answer is yes; of course we can be angry! We should be angry when we see wrong, sinful acts.
Often times we become "short fused" or "hot tempered" over miniscule things. I assure you we all have pet-peeves. There are things that certain ones do, say.....I don't know, for example chewing gum and smacking their lips sounding like a cow. Well, that may get under someone’s skin.
This particular emotion, the emotion of anger, is a very destructive one.  If held inside anger can build into animosity, and if acted upon immediately it can harm others. As young adults we become hyperconscious of our emotions while lacking concern for the feelings of those around us.
If we each reflect on a time we hurt someone out of anger we realize a pattern. You snap and get salty, and in the matter of 2.8 seconds the thought crosses your mind that in another 3.9 seconds you will be grounded or witness a broken heart. Why is it we direct our anger at the ones closest to us?  When we find ourselves becoming angry about the slightest act, we need to step back.  Take a second to breathe. Yes, that may sound super cheesy, but who cares if it prevents hard feelings.

Since anger is a built in alarm saying "Hey...whoa ...that's wrong", that is the only time we should act on it. There is a way to express anger in a Christianly way, for the sin we see. Though anger can be quick and harmful, if harnessed we can find it as just another emotion in our arsenal of emotional weaponry to use against Satan himself.

Let’s start acting like Christians and get angry.....in the right way about the right things.

Ephesians 4: 26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
